The 'Summer Kitchen', were we stayed was a pleasant room but on our second night, the jetted tub activated spontaneously, emitting a loud noise and smell of burning pump belts, and after a difficult time shutting it off, it cycled back on after exactly 20 minutes. Walkways, and to some extent, rooms, presented tripping hazards (power cords strung across floors and tucked loosely under carpets) and brick paths were uneven having buckled from ground movement and frost heaves. Tree branches needed pruning and shrubs needed trimming. The food was outstanding, both breakfast and the "REQUIRED" dinner reservation (which seemed a little strange) but the place is getting "a little tired" and was in need of some general maintenance and grounds needed a little TLC. Maybe you can have an anniversary of your first anniversary :) Warmly, Chris Seek, Owner & Managing Director and the rest of the Meander teamīased upon many "glowing reviews" we selected Meander Plantation as an anniversary celebration getaway. Now that America is opening again, we are waiting to welcome you back once again. We hope you will return again soon and see all of the positive changes we have made for a Meander experience. We are also celebrating that made it through the pandemic! Though it was an extremely difficult year for us, we feel extremely appreciative more than ever for our fans that helped push us through to a brighter other side. We are extremely proud of how far we have come. We have updated several amenities while managing to preserve the historic space and quaint feel. Since my wife and I have recently bought the place, we have used our tourism consulting background to deliver quality experiences to all of our guests. My name is Chris, and I am the new owner and manager of the inn. It means a lot that you wanted to celebrate such a special anniversary with us here at The Inn and Tavern at Meander. However, if you choose not to leave the grounds at all and subsist only on the 5-star breakfasts and immaculate dinners prepared by the restaurant, no one would fault you at all.Īn extremely belated but very important THANK YOU for staying with us in 2014 and for this glowing review. Many wineries are also close by, as is James Madison's Montpelier. The inn is also conveniently located to good restaurants there are some in Orange, but you may have better luck in downtown Culpepper which is about 10 minutes up the road. Benches and chairs were also scattered everywhere for those looking to find a quiet afternoon reading spot. There were at least two walking trails on the grounds one that meandered (no pun intended) along between the corn fields and the horse pasture, and another that sauntered down to the river. The grounds of the inn were impressive as well, especially the open pastures with horses behind the main house. Personally, I really appreciated the antiquated quality of the room it made it much easier to feel like you'd escaped to an authentic Colonial Virginia, not a clean-cut reimagination of it. While the bathroom may be updated with a new bathtub and shower, many modern amenities such as a TV or refrigerator are absent (coffee maker and air conditioning units are present though). The summer kitchen room where we stayed was an enormous two story suite, essentially a private country house completely separate from the main inn and restaurant. My wife and I just spent our first anniversary here at the Inn and were not disappointed.
